Nebula Labs’ co-founder Dylan Mckee has volunteered to mentor students at an innovative new University Technology College (UTC). The North East Futures UTC is a unique new school set to open on Stephenson Quarter in Newcastle City Centre this September. It aims to boost growth in the North East and tackle the region’s skills shortage by working with employers to deliver a pool of ‘work-ready’ young people into the North East’s economy. It will achieve this by equpping students with more than just traditional GSCEs and A-levels: the school’s specialist
“take more risks and be more bold”
Dylan praised students enrolling at the UTC for their bold decision to take this specialised route rather than enrolling in a more conventional college and encouraged students to “take more risks and be more bold”. Although he enjoyed school, Dylan explained that in hindsight, it was mainly a means of getting into further education. Since starting his mobile app and web development firm last year, Dylan advised he no longer uses many of the skills he acquired at school in his day-to-day life. Clearly North East Futures will help students with a passion for technology akin to Dylan’s acquire life long skills and boost growth in the North East tech sector.
