Nebula Labs Collaborating with Visavis Ventures on a Unique New Dating App
The Visavis App and Marketplace was built for Cypriot-born Newcastle-based entrepreneur Michalis Panayiotou, of Visavis Ventures Ltd. The Nebula Labs team worked directly with visionary entrepreneur Michalis Panayiotou to deliver a mobile app in the dating sector.
The app allows users to ‘experience real connection’, as they find dates through the app, then book in to a participating venue to meet their date at. Users pay a deposit for each date through Credit Card, Debit Card or Apple Pay, using the Stripe Payment Gateway.
That is where the marketplace aspect of this project comes in. The Visavis venue system works on a two-sided marketplace model, where the cloudbased marketplace allows for participating venues (primarily in the hospitality industry) to sign up, link their bank account directly via Stripe Connect, and set their availability and costs up through a venue-facing dashboard.
When a date is booked at a participating venue, the venue instantly receives the deposit that the user has paid, deposited directly in to their bank account via Stripe Connect, less the Marketplace Fee - which is a commission charged by Visavis Ventures for running the marketplace and allowing venues to use the application.
Additionally, participating venues on the marketplace are able to set their capacity and availability through a self-serve venue-facing dashboard, designed specifically in a self-service manner to allow for high scalability from an operations perspective.
The marketplace fee is calculated dynamically based upon what type of hospitality venue the venue is (for example restaurants may be charged at a different rate to bars and coffee shops), and the fee is charged via and instantly available to Visavis Ventures through Stripe Connect integration.
The native mobile app was released on iOS, written in Swift, and featured a bespoke backend API, which combines the marketplace dashboard for hospitality venues to use and the Stripe Connect Payment Gateway Integration, written in the Python language using the Django framework, with the highly scalable PostgreSQL Database, deployed to the cloud via the Amazon Web Services platform for truly global scalability and transaction throughput.
Nebula Labs worked with local entrepreneur Michalis Panayiotou to create a unique mobile dating app, Visavis. Visavis is focused on enabling meaningful offline interactions by facilitating dates at local bars, coffee shops and restaurants around Newcastle. The app integrates with a bespoke custom back-end API, written in Python using the Django framework, and is hosted on Amazon Web Service to ensure scalability. To facilitate in-app payments, our team have integrated Stripe Connect API into the app. The Visavis app, which is written in Swift - the latest iOS programming language, is exclusively available on iOS devices to Newcastle University Students now!
